Hoi! Nice to meet you :)
Who
My name is Dominik and I‘m a 24 years old guy from Switzerland, living near Bern.
I‘m still trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with my life (and by extension, who I truly am). And this website serves as a time capsule of this process. For me, but also for you. Because the journey is way more important than the destination.
I consider myself a very curious person with many interests. Right now, I‘m into:
- Coding (in general)
- Swift, Laravel & React (in particular)
- The world of personal websites (aka the IndieWeb)
- The AT Protocol
- Blogging
- Running
- Photography
- Reading
- Living a simpler life
I suppose my blog and /now are pretty good places to check and see, what‘s on top of my mind recently.
What
By day, I’m working as the Lead Engineer @Trueform where I'm currently building Billow. Apart from that, I create my own things at night. Mostly by designing & coding stuff, but I also run regularly and I'm trying to get better at articulating my thoughts (aka writing on this blog).
Other than that, I like to learn and understand as much as I can about this fascinating world we’re living in. Mostly by myself and from books or the internet. But because that can get a bit lonely, and you have to be very disciplined to study the hard parts, I'm also attending university – currently studying computer science @University of Bern. My minors are maths and social sciences.
For a more up-to-date overview of what I’m doing, take a look at the /now page.
Things I like
This is not exhaustive, but should get you a pretty good vibe of who I am:
Noir thrillers (books & movies), running, reading a good book, cozy evenings with loved ones, trying out new cooking recipes, rainy days in big cities, getting lost in random rabbit holes, making plans about the future daydreaming, collecting inspiration (for one of my thousand project ideas), working in trains, deep house (or whatever genre Elderbrook and BUNT. fit into), the feeling after coming home from the gym, thinking and philosophising about stuff I find interesting right at that moment (and now writing about it too), baby goats & dogs, biographies of inspiring people, true-crime podcasts, Liverpool FC, Bern, strolling through book stores, NOCCO, El Tony Mate, the smell of a summer thunderstorm, street photography, bringing things to live with code, minimalism (especially as a design style), sushi, poké bowls, simple living, board game nights with friends, …
(Plus 1000 other things I forgot to write down and will add later.)
Personal Values
I consider these my core values that I try to align my lifestyle with:
Autonomy, because I am capable of taking responsibility and take my life into my own hands.
Calmness, because a calm mind is more present and a calm person is more pleasant to be around.
Creativity, because it's a privilege to be able to make the world a better place through the things we create and the ideas we share.
Knowledge, because education is what's left, after no dollar remains.
Sustainability, because long-term thinking always triumphs over short-term quick wins with no lasting effect.
They are not set in stone and might change in the future, but right now, they just feel right.
Why
This website serves multiple purposes:
- It allows me to put myself out there and meet great people.
- It helps me get to know myself better (Writing the copy for this page is really hard).
- It documents my life.
- It lets me work on my craft (design, code, writing, photography) and share it.
- It‘s a way better resume than LinkedIn.
A personal website is a great thing to have. It‘s my ever-evolving project and allows me to tinker around on my own terms.
